How to wear: the biker jacket
OK, we give up. You hear that, the sun? We. Give. Up. We're not expecting you to warm our skin this month or give us the joys of luxuriating in the park of a weekend while a barbeque sizzles nearby. We are officially returning to our cold-weather wardrobe.
Luckily there are plenty of women's designer clothing pieces that are thick enough to keep out the spring chill and could feasibly take us through to autumn if the summer is a washout.
A cropped biker jacket is just one example. Worn by myriad A-listers from Alexa Chung to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, the simple leather cover-up can be paired with virtually anything for a fresh twist on an old classic.
Sarah Jessica Parker teamed hers with soft grey cropped jeans and white hi-tops, adding a black quilted bag and sunglasses for a rocky edge. Daisy Lowe went for a girlier look with a white floral prom dress topped off with her black jacket and stompy boots, proving you can still do red carpet chic with outerwear.
Even Lady Gaga's at it, as she strutted through an airport in Japan this week wearing very little else besides a beige Chanel leather jacket with snakeskin print arms, a pair of spiky heeled boots and a military style cap.
Belstaff has a wide range of leather biker jackets, many of which have already been snapped up by celebrities. Alexa Chung wore a Belstaff jacket to Glastonbury in 2008, giving it a festival vibe by finishing it with some high-waisted jeans and a stripy Breton top.
Since then, the brand's outerwear has been seen on the back of Benedict Cumberbatch when he played Sherlock Holmes in the TV series, which caused countless numbers of women to swoon and wonder why their menfolk never look that good in a trench coat.
But back to the ideal spring cover-up. You can dress your biker jacket down for a stroll in the park with a pair of skinny jeans and some on-trend loafers, or go for ladylike evening elegance by wearing it over the top of a stunning party dress - just add pillar-box red lipstick for instant glamour and a nod to 1980s Madonna.
