How to get office smart in the heat

Don't swelter in the summer heat

With the sunshine reappearing over the UK, untold numbers of men up and down the country will be boiling inside their winter suits wishing they'd left the umbrella at home and worn shorts to work.

But just because the temperature's heating up does not mean it's a good idea to throw the office attire rules out the window.

According to Angela Marshall, founder of Appearance Management and a leading image consultant, it's important to remember a few basics about dressing correctly for the workplace.

"First and foremost always be well groomed - neat hair, well pressed clothes, clean shoes, hands and nails. Ensure your clothes fit you well and the styles complement your shape," she advised.

"Know what style jacket, trousers and shirt necklines are the ones that complement your body and face shape and dress to suit your company's brand, for example, conservative, creative, chic, formal or informal."

Ms Marshall pointed out that there's no point in donning cuts or fabrics that don't suit you or your personality, because you won't feel happy or comfortable wearing them.

"Buy quality clothes and have alterations where needed, for example, the length of trousers, sleeve length. If the clothes do not fit you will not show yourself at your best and will look less professional and they will not last as long."

If you're looking for good quality men's designer clothing, you can't go far wrong with Hackett. With its range of Oxford shirts in gingham and collar contrast colours, the brand is great for a workwear wardrobe. Try the sky blue Oxford blazer for a smart-casual summer office look or slip on a classic polo shirt for dress down Fridays.

Need a new pair of office shoes? Try Swear Footwear for classic leather brogues or opt for Grenson for its range of work-friendly shoes in shades such as burnt pine, tan and grey.
