The Nudie Dry Denim Journey
Nudie Jeans was founded in Sweden by Maria Erixsson, after previously working for one of the worlds oldest denim companies, Lee. Nudie Jeans now designs and manufactures sweatshirts, t-shirts and jackets, but is profoundly known for its first class denim products and more specifically its world renowned dry denim.
For those that those that are not in the 'know', dry or raw denim (as it is often referred too) is a denim that has never been washed after the jeans dyeing process. To begin with, a pair of dry denim jeans will usually be a deep dark indigo blue colour, will have a rigid feel, be heavy in weight, and will probably not be the most comfortable pair of jeans you have ever felt. However don't let this put you off! Over time the jeans will generally soften with wear and fade in colour (This process is referred to as 'breaking in' by the denim connoisseurs).
Breaking in a pair of Nudie jeans is journey lasting a recommended minimum of six months. Depending on your lifestyle and how vigorously you wear your pair, the jeans will fade and develop stress marks around; the upper thighs (whiskers), the ankles (stacks) and behind the knee (honey combs). The outcome is a highly desirable pair of jeans unique to yourself, the marks you have developed over time each tell a different story. Once you have been on dry denim journey, it's a cycle that you will probably repeat for the rest of your life.
Here's a timeline of a pair of Nudie Dry Denim Jeans worn for eight months and washed once.
